Cobalt Octoate

Cobalt Octoate Catalyst is the most important metal drier.  It results in rapid surface drying, and, in combination with secondary drier, such as zirconium, barium or zinc, in uniform through-drying of the paint film.  This is a polymerization promoter for unsaturated polyester resins as well at room temperature. It is cobalt sale of 2-ethylhexanoic acid (octates) or their isomers. We are supplier of cobalt in Pakistan.

APPLICATIONS

Cobalt is used in all oxidative systems, whether air-or forced-drying.  It is used in architectural paints, industrial coatings, stains, varnishes, oil-based inks and artists’ colors.  Cobalt can also be used in all solvent based Unsaturated Polyester Resins or vinyl ester applications to promote crosslinking.  It is the lightest, commercial cobalt catalyst available and is recommended specifically for use in gel-coats and castings where color is critical.

 

DOSAGE

In conventional alkyd formulations, the cobalt addition is between 0.03 and 0.08 %, calculated on the solid binder.

In printing inks, a combination of Cobalt and Manganese is recommended.  The amount of cobalt is between 0.03 and 0.05 %, calculated on the solid binder.  

Cobalt can also be combined with Zirconium and Calcium.  This yields outstanding results in systems that are free from heavy metals.  

Irrespective of these guidelines, the addition should always be determined in preliminary trials

Storage

Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.  Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in original container. Store in accordance with local regulations.  Keep away from food, drink and animal feed stuffs. Keep at temperatures between 5 C and 30 C

PROPERTIES

12 % Cobalt catalyses  redox reactions and even small additions result in the dissociation of autoxidant hydroperoxides and to a change in valency from Co2 + to Co3+  . Cobalt thus results in rapid surface drying and yellowing. It is also formulated for Unsaturated Polyester Resins to impart less color. 12 % Cobalt decomposes the peroxide initiator which then forms the free radicals needed to begin polymerization. Pakistan Fiber Glass is a importer of cobalt in Pakistan.

Cobalt 6%

COLOURLESS COBALT

DESCRIPTION           Colourless Cobalt is the most important metal drier. It was specially developed for curing button and casting resin. One important requirement on these two applications is that its final product after curing needs high transparency or easy pure pigmentation, the original colour of colourless Cobalt will disappear after resin curing and then it can keep the final product’s colours the same as the original color of its liquid resin.

STORAGE

  1. Keep away from oxidising material or oxidizing reagents (for example, organic peroxide) as it reacts violently with them.
  2. Store in a cool, dry place and keep the container upright to prevent leakage.

SHELFLIFE: When stored in a tightly closed Container, below 30 C the product will remain within our specification for a period of 18 months from the date of Manufacturing.
